Livelihoods

Widows Empowerment Program

Karma-based worldviews often blame the wife for a man's death. This attitude is what has led to the practice of sati (widow burning).

Widows are typically unable to re-marry and are often viewed as a curse on their family and village. They are often marginalised, and considered a curse to their family and community.

Enabled has established a number of programs to support widows, including community-based savings programs and income enhancement projects, with access to seeds and a goat breeding initiative.

Disability-Inclusive Livelihoods Initiative

For people with disability, we run an inclusive livelihoods program that trains people with disability in agricultural trade suitable for their skills and disability. Enabled therapists work closely with them and connect them together in support groups that meet regularly for social, practical and vocational encouragement.
